For almost two decades Napier Port has experienced steady growth in container movements through the port. In the aftermath of the Kaikoura quake, this increase in cargo volumes has changed from steady growth to a steep increase in import containers.
Facing a peak export season with the highest ever total levels of goods cargo volumes, Napier Port is streamlining its processes to ensure traffic flows efficiently into and out of the port. We have recruited more people, brought in more machines, and repurposed spaces to maximise the capacity available within the port’s existing footprint. Now, it’s about refining our processes.
From Monday 6 March, we will be asking transport operators to book the collection of all import containers with the specific container number between 5pm and 7pm the day prior to collection. This will enable us to single stack the nominated containers ready for pick up, ensuring your import container will be quickly and easily accessed by your transport operator.
Your transport operator will need your support to ensure this system runs smoothly. Please provide them with the container number of the import box to be collected, with enough time for them to make a booking by 7pm the day prior to your required collection date.
We thank you for your support in making a smooth transition to this new process.
